Fire Protection - Passive and Active Fire-Resistant Solutions
High-performance materials for structural fire containment and suppression systems
Vitcas offers a specialist range of fire-resistant materials suitable for integration into both passive and active fire protection systems. Engineered for high thermal stability and structural integrity under extreme conditions, these materials play a vital role in safeguarding buildings, equipment, and critical infrastructure across industrial, commercial, and domestic environments.
Active vs Passive Fire Protection Systems
Active fire protection systems are those which respond to fire either automatically or manually to detect, suppress, or extinguish it. These systems typically include fire sprinklers, suppression agents, alarms, and extinguishers, and are designed to remain effective throughout prolonged exposure to flames or elevated temperatures.
Passive fire protection, by contrast, does not require activation. It consists of fire-resistant construction elements designed to compartmentalise fire, delay its spread, and maintain structural stability. Passive fireproofing includes high-temperature boards, refractory sealants, fire-retardant coatings, and fire-resistant rope and insulation materials. These systems are especially valuable where active suppression is not immediately available or practical.
Integrated Fire Safety Strategy
For comprehensive fire resilience, both passive and active protection strategies should be implemented in tandem. Passive materials provide essential early containment and structural protection, while active systems manage suppression over time.
Vitcas fire-resistant materials are suitable for installation in:
-
Fire barriers and partitions
-
Equipment and pipe enclosures
