High-Temperature Fire Rope Seals for Stoves, Flues & Heating Appliances

VITCAS high-temperature fire ropes provide flexible sealing for stove doors, stove glass, appliance panels and compatible flue connections. Manufactured from heat-resistant glass fibre, these rope seals are designed for service temperatures up to 550°C and are suitable for wood-burning stoves, multi-fuel appliances, boilers and other compatible heating equipment.

The range includes soft knitted fire rope for curved or less uniform sealing grooves and firm braided fire rope for applications that require a denser, more stable gasket profile. Depending on construction and colour, diameters are available from approximately 3 mm to 25 mm.

Select the rope according to the appliance manufacturer’s specification, groove dimensions, required compression and rope construction. Correct sizing is essential: an undersized rope may not seal effectively, while an oversized or excessively firm rope can interfere with door closure or place unnecessary load on the hinges, latch or glass.

Thermal Fire Ropes for High-Temperature Sealing

VITCAS thermal fire ropes are available in soft knitted and firm braided constructions to suit different sealing grooves and compression requirements. Soft knitted rope offers greater flexibility and conformability around curved or less uniform channels, while firm braided rope retains a denser and more stable gasket profile.

Depending on construction and colour, available diameters range from approximately 3 mm to 25 mm. White and black versions allow the rope to be matched to the appliance design and installation requirements, but size, density and compression should always be selected according to the equipment specification rather than appearance alone.

Soft Knitted vs Firm Braided Fire Rope

Changing from soft to firm rope, or selecting a different diameter, can alter the compression and closing force of the appliance door. The replacement should therefore match the original specification as closely as possible.

  • Selected Furnace Joints: may be used in suitable furnace or oven sealing duties where the service temperature remains within the 550°C rating and the rope profile matches the joint design.

Choosing the Correct Fire Rope Diameter

The rope diameter should match the gasket groove and appliance manufacturer’s specification. An old rope can become permanently compressed during service, so measuring the removed gasket alone may result in an undersized replacement.

An undersized rope may not provide sufficient contact around the joint, while an oversized or excessively firm rope can prevent correct door closure or place unnecessary load on the hinges, latch or glass. Correct compression is therefore as important as temperature capability.

Fire Rope vs Higher-Temperature Industrial Packing

Round glass fibre fire rope is intended primarily for stove, heating-appliance and compatible flue sealing applications up to 550°C. It should not be selected simply because a joint requires a flexible seal at a much higher temperature.

For more severe industrial furnace, kiln or boiler duties, VITCAS also provides square, rectangular and ceramic-fibre packing products with different cross-sections, constructions and higher service-temperature capabilities. These products are designed for different groove geometries and should not be treated as direct substitutes for stove-door fire rope.
