Backing & Insulating Around Traditional Fireplace Components
VITCAS Vermiculite Insulating Cement is a lightweight, non-combustible insulating material intended for compatible backing and non-structural infill. One of its specified applications is filling suitable gaps between firebacks and fireplaces, including traditional cast-iron fireplace installations.
The material provides insulation rather than structural support. Cast-iron inserts, firebacks and surrounding masonry should therefore be mechanically supported by the fireplace construction itself rather than relying on vermiculite insulating cement to carry imposed loads.
