VITCAS Heat Resistant Throat Forming Lintel

VITCAS Heat Resistant Throat Forming Lintel is a precast refractory concrete component designed for use with VITCAS Heat Resistant Firebacks in traditional open fireplaces. Rated to 1400°C / 2550°F and available in nominal 16" and 18" sizes, it forms the fireplace throat between the fire chamber and chimney, helping direct smoke and combustion gases into the flue.

Its specially shaped profile supports effective chimney draught and helps protect surrounding masonry from excessive heat when installed as part of a correctly designed fireplace.

Installation Guidelines

1. Check Dimensions: Select the appropriate size and refer to the product images for detailed measurements.
2. Position Correctly: Install the lintel on its curved side, with the U-shaped opening facing the rear of the fireplace.
3. Maintain Throat Clearance: Follow VITCAS installation guidance, which specifies a gap of 110 mm ± 10 mm between the fireback and throat-forming lintel.
4. Allow for Expansion: Provide suitable thermal movement allowances and use compatible refractory materials.
5. Initial Firing: Allow all installation materials to cure and dry fully before gradually introducing heat.

Please note: This is a refractory throat-forming component, not a structural load-bearing lintel. When correctly installed, it helps maintain effective chimney draught and directs combustion gases, including carbon monoxide (CO), towards the flue. It does not prevent CO formation, and safe operation depends on adequate combustion air, a suitable chimney and correct fireplace installation.
