VITCAS Replacement Fire Bricks are specially designed for replacing worn, cracked or damaged refractory bricks in domestic fireplaces, open fires, fireplace inserts and compatible wood-burning or multi-fuel stoves. Manufactured from high-density fireclay and resistant to temperatures up to 1300°C, these durable firebricks provide a reliable heat-resistant lining material for areas exposed to intense heat and direct flames.

Supplied in a convenient pack of six 230 × 114 × 32mm fire bricks, they are ideal for fireplace maintenance, firebox lining repairs and selected high-temperature construction projects. Their dense refractory structure provides mechanical strength and thermal mass, making them particularly suitable for applications requiring heat accumulation and durability.

How to Replace and Install Fire Bricks

Replacing damaged fire bricks helps maintain the intended refractory lining in compatible fireplaces and stoves. Installation methods vary depending on the appliance design and whether the bricks are dry-fitted or secured with refractory mortar.

1. Allow the fireplace or stove to cool: Ensure the appliance is completely cold before starting work. Carefully remove damaged fire bricks and clean away loose ash, soot and debris.
2. Check the replacement dimensions: Measure the original bricks and confirm their thickness, material type and position within the firebox. Check for retaining clips, expansion clearances and combustion-air openings.
3. Cut the bricks if required: Mark the required dimensions and cut using suitable diamond masonry cutting equipment. Use appropriate dust suppression and personal protective equipment.
4. Dry-fit the replacement bricks: Position the bricks to check their alignment and fit. Avoid forcing them tightly against surrounding components or obstructing air passages.
5. Secure according to the appliance design: Many stove fire bricks are installed without mortar and held by retaining components. Where bonded brickwork is specified, use suitable VITCAS refractory mortar according to its application instructions.
6. Inspect before returning to use: Check that the bricks, retainers and baffles are correctly positioned. Allow wet-cut bricks to dry and follow the relevant curing and initial heating instructions.

Important: Dense fireclay bricks are not necessarily interchangeable with lightweight vermiculite or insulating stove liners. Always check the appliance manufacturer's specifications before selecting replacement bricks.

Manufacturing Tolerances

Due to the nature of fireclay brick manufacturing, slight dimensional variations of approximately ±3mm, subtle colour differences and minor edge chips may occur without affecting the bricks' quality or performance. Small chips are a normal characteristic of fireclay bricks and can be filled with VITCAS Refractory Mortar or Outdoor Oven Cement where appropriate for the application.
