Vitcas FPC - Passive Fire Protection Coating for Steel and Concrete
Vitcas FPC is a trowel-applied, hydraulically bonded, fire-resistant coating composed of non-combustible vermiculite and cement. Supplied as a dry, cementitious premix, it is designed for easy on-site mixing with potable water. This formulation delivers reliable passive fire protection for both internal and fully exposed structural environments.
Unlike many systems that fail abruptly after their rated fire resistance period, Vitcas FPC continues to provide thermal insulation throughout the duration of a fire, helping maintain the integrity of protected structures under prolonged heat and flame exposure. The minimum application thickness is 8 mm without reinforcement and 13 mm with reinforcement, with one or more coats applied as needed to achieve the required fire performance rating. Compatible with the following substrates: existing Vitcas fireproof coatings, uncoated or primed concrete, and bare or primed steel surfaces.
Key Benefits of Fireproof Coating
Extended Fire Protection - up to 240 minutes: Proven resistance to both hydrocarbon and cellulosic fires, ensuring long-term structural stability.
Predictable Fire Performance: Maintains integrity without sudden collapse or delamination, providing reliable protection throughout the duration of a fire.
No Specialised Equipment Required: Applied manually using standard plastering tools-ideal for confined or restricted-access areas where spray application is not feasible.
Resilient to Fire-Fighting Conditions: Remains stable under direct exposure to fire hoses or sprinkler systems, withstanding thermal shock without deterioration.
Wind and Mechanical Impact Resistant: Withstands turbulence and accidental impacts, making it suitable for outdoor or high-traffic environments.
Simple Maintenance and Repair: Can be locally removed and reinstated without compromising fire protection, allowing easy access for installing fixings or service elements.
Smooth Trowelled Finish: Easily levelled to achieve a clean, uniform surface suitable for exposed or visible applications.
Surface Preparation: Ensure substrates are structurally sound, dry, and free from moisture, oil, dust, laitance, rust, or any bond-inhibiting contaminants. Do not use curing agents. Any priming system must be suitable for high-alkalinity environments (pH 12.0-12.5).
The ambient and substrate temperature must be at least 2°C and rising, with application avoided if temperatures are below 4°C and falling; the maximum allowable temperature is 45°C, and the substrate should be at least 2°C above the dew point.
