VITCAS Vermiculite Fireproof Board is a versatile thermal insulation material, specially designed for use in indoor or covered applications including fireplaces, stoves, heaters, range cookers, boilers, night storage heaters, vessels and tanks, hobby kilns etc. Made from naturally occuring vermiculite, non-toxic aluminium-magnesium silicate, this board is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1100°C / 2010°F. Its lightweight yet durable structure makes it suitable for a variety of domestic and industrial uses. The vermiculite board can be worked easily with wood working tools.

Key Features of Vermiculite Thermal Insulation Boards:

  • Easily Workable: Can be sawn, drilled, and sanded with standard woodworking tools, allowing for easy shaping and installation according to project requirements.

  • Superior Insulation Properties: Effectively insulates against heat, improving energy efficiency and enhancing the safety of heat-exposed areas.
  • Non-Toxic: Made from naturally occurring vermiculite, which is safe for use in both residential and commercial environments.

VITCAS Vermiculite Fireproof Insulation Boards are suitable for a variety of high-heat applications, including:

  • Fireplaces & Stoves: Acts as a heat shield behind fireplaces or above stoves, providing reliable thermal protection for surrounding surfaces.
  • Register Plates: Can be installed as a register plate above free-standing stoves, helping to control the heat and direct it where necessary.
  • Replacement for Fire bricks: Functions as an alternative to traditional firebricks inside stoves, providing effective thermal insulation and resistance to high temperatures.
  • Range Cookers & Boilers: Used to insulate range cookers, boilers, and similar heating systems, preventing heat loss and improving overall thermal efficiency.
  • Vessels & Tanks: Suitable for lining or insulating vessels and tanks exposed to high temperatures, offering long-lasting protection.
  • Hobby Kilns: Ideal for use in hobby kilns such as for ceramic, jewellery, glass, blacksmith and foundry furnaces, where there is repeated exposure to high temperatures during firing and melting processes.

Installation & Finishing:

Vermiculite Fireproof Board is designed for easy installation and can be securely fixed in place using various methods:

  • Fixing to Walls: The board can be drilled, screwed, or fixed directly to walls using Insulation Fixings, and secured with VITCAS Heat Resistant Board Adhesive or HB60 for a strong, secure bond.
  • Sealing: For sealing edges or the area around a flue pipe, use VITCAS Heat Resistant Silicone to ensure a heat-resistant and durable seal.
  • Decorative Finishing: To achieve a polished look, the board can be finished with VITCAS Heat Resistant Paint Spray, or alternatively, sealed with PVA and tiled using VITCAS Heat Resistant Tile Adhesive.

Product Q&A

Question
Can this vermiculite board replace firebricks inside a stove?
Answer
The board can be used as a replacement for firebricks inside stoves where a lightweight, insulating vermiculite lining is suitable. It is easier to cut and shape than traditional dense firebricks.
Question
Can vermiculite fire board be used outdoors?
Answer
The board is intended for indoor or covered applications. It may only be used outdoors when it is fully protected from moisture, including rain, damp and condensation. It should not be installed as an exposed external surface. Suitable sealing, covering and weather protection must be planned before installation to prevent the vermiculite board from absorbing moisture.

Question
Can I cut and drill the vermiculite fire board?
Answer
Yes. The lightweight vermiculite board can be sawn, drilled and sanded using standard woodworking tools. This allows it to be shaped for register plates, heat shields, stove linings and other project-specific installations. Measure the required opening or replacement section carefully before cutting, particularly where the board must fit around a flue pipe or inside an existing appliance.
Question
Can vermiculite fire board be painted?
Answer
Yes. VITCAS Heat Resistant Paint Spray can be used when a painted finish is preferred. This provides a practical decorative option for visible boards around suitable fireplaces, stoves and heaters. Prepare the surface carefully and follow the paint instructions rather than applying standard decorative paint that has not been confirmed for high-temperature use.
Question
How can the board be fixed directly to a wall?
Answer
The board can be drilled and screwed to a wall, secured with insulation fixings, or bonded using VITCAS BA Heat Resistant Board Adhesive or HB60. Select a fixing method suitable for the wall and installation, and make sure the board is stable before applying VITCAS HRP Heat Resistant Plaster, heat-resistant paint or tiles.
Question
Can tiles be fitted over vermiculite fire board?
Answer
Yes. The board can be tiled after its surface has been sealed with PVA. Fix the tiles using VITCAS Heat Resistant Tile Adhesive so the finishing system is suitable for the heated application. Make sure the board is firmly secured and that all joints and edges have been prepared before tiling.
