The Vitcas Outdoor Wood-Fired Pizza Oven Kit contains all the essential Vitcas refractory and insulation materials required for building your own wood-fired pizza oven in the garden.

Short on time or you prefer a faster installation without full DIY construction? Explore our range of ready-made outdoor wood-fired pizza ovens.

Build Your Own Outdoor Wood-Fired Oven

Design and construct a bespoke garden pizza oven tailored to your exact requirements. This kit has been carefully compiled based on extensive experience in refractory oven construction and includes the core materials required to build an oven approximately 1 metre in diameter.

Our garden pizza oven kits include sufficient firebricks for both the oven floor and dome structure, precision arch bricks for forming the entrance, and high-performance ceramic fibre insulation for efficient heat retention and thermal stability.

The dome can be constructed over a sand former, timber or metal template, or using a trammel system to ensure accurate dome geometry during installation.

Flexible Design – Complete Creative Control

This DIY pizza oven kit is not restricted to a fixed design, allowing full flexibility in layout, finish and external render. Whether you are building a traditional brick dome oven or a contemporary outdoor cooking feature, Vitcas refractory materials provide durability and heat resistance suitable for high-temperature wood-fired cooking.

The Vitcas Outdoor Pizza Oven Kit includes:

  • 280 x Firebricks (230 x 114 x 64mm) – suitable for oven floor and dome construction
  • 2 x Arch Brick Sets (17 per set – 34 arch bricks total) for the oven entrance
  • 5 x Heatproof Screed 20kg – for levelling and heat-resistant base preparation
  • 1 x 50mm Ceramic Fibre Board – high-temperature insulation layer
  • 2 x Ceramic Fibre Blankets (7m total) – dome insulation
  • 1 x Ceramic Fibre Adhesive 310ml
  • 1 x Wire Mesh – reinforcement layer
  • 2 x Outdoor Oven Cement 20kg – weather-resistant external finish

For guidance, we recommend reading our step-by-step blog article explaining how to build a wood-fired pizza oven in six easy steps, and reviewing the full range of compatible Vitcas products.

Further information on refractory materials and insulation products for oven construction can be found on our website.

Oven Size

The finished oven is approximately 1 metre in diameter. This measurement may refer to either the internal or external diameter depending on your chosen design specification and insulation thickness.

Please note: This kit provides the core refractory and insulation materials required for construction. The guide and materials are intended as general guidance only. Final design, structural support and foundation requirements must be assessed according to site conditions and individual project specifications.

Product Q&A

Question
Does this kit build a complete ready-made pizza oven?
Answer
This is a collection of core refractory and insulation materials for constructing your own wood-fired pizza oven, rather than a pre-assembled oven. You must design and build the structure, prepare an appropriate foundation and provide any additional components required by your chosen design, finish and installation site.
Question
What size pizza oven can I build with this kit?
Answer
The supplied quantities are intended to build an oven approximately 1 metre in diameter. Whether this measurement becomes the internal or external diameter depends on your design, insulation thickness and construction method. Plan the complete structure carefully before building, as the included quantities are recommendations rather than a fixed oven specification.
Question
Can I customise the shape and finish of the oven?
Answer
Yes. The kit is not restricted to one fixed design, allowing you to create a traditional brick dome or a more contemporary outdoor cooking feature. The dome may be formed over sand, a timber or metal template, or with a trammel system. The final layout and finish remain the installer’s responsibility.
Question
Are there enough firebricks for the floor and dome?
Answer
The kit contains 280 firebricks measuring 230 × 114 × 64mm, intended for constructing the oven floor and dome. It also includes two sets of 17 precision arch bricks for forming the entrance. Actual material requirements can vary with the selected diameter, wall arrangement, cuts and individual oven design.
Question
Why is insulation important in a wood-fired pizza oven?
Answer
Effective insulation reduces heat loss through the base and dome, helping the oven retain a more even cooking temperature. The kit combines ceramic fibre board and blanket insulation to improve thermal stability around the fire brick structure. Correct positioning is important, as the board is used beneath the oven while the blankets insulate the dome.
Question
Where should the VITCAS insulation board be installed?
Answer
The Insulation Board is intended for installation beneath the oven floor as a high-temperature insulation layer. It helps reduce heat transfer from the cooking floor into the supporting structure. The foundation and support must still be strong, level and suitable for the weight and dimensions of the completed oven.
Question
How is the VITCAS insulation blanket used?
Answer
The insulating ceramic fibre blankets are used to insulate the outside of the completed fire brick dome. They form a flexible thermal layer around the curved oven structure, helping to retain heat rather than allowing it to escape through the brickwork. The blankets should be secured before the reinforcing mesh and external oven-cement finish are applied.
Question
Why is wire mesh fitted over the insulation?
Answer
The wire mesh helps keep the ceramic fibre blanket securely against the firebrick dome and provides a reinforced surface for the VITCAS OC Outdoor Oven Cement. It also supports the external layer and helps reduce the risk of cracking in the cement finish. Fit it over the insulation blanket rather than directly against the oven’s cooking surface.
Question
Is VITCAS OC - Outdoor Oven Cement the main insulation layer?
Answer
No. The ceramic fibre board and blankets provide the main thermal insulation included in the kit. VITCAS OC Outdoor Oven Cement is used as a weather-resistant external finish over the reinforced dome insulation. The kit contains two 20kg packs, but the amount required can vary with the oven’s design, dimensions and chosen external finish.
