Product Q&A

Question
Does the kit include everything needed to replace the seal?
Answer
The kit contains 2 metres of white glass fibre rope, VITCAS RA Rope Adhesive and protective gloves. These are the principal materials needed to remove and replace a worn stove gasket. Suitable cleaning tools and a sharp cutting tool may still be required to prepare the groove and trim the rope accurately.
Question
Can this kit replace the seal around stove glass?
Answer
Yes. The white stove rope kit can renew suitable seals around stove glass, as well as between the stove door and appliance body. Check that round rope is the correct gasket type and choose the diameter specified for the stove. Clean the sealing channel thoroughly before pressing the new rope into the supplied adhesive.
Question
How do I know which rope diameter to order?
Answer
Check the stove manufacturer’s instructions or compare the replacement with the original rope and gasket groove. The diameter must be large enough to form a close seal without making the door difficult to shut. Do not choose the size solely from the outside dimensions of the stove door.
Question
Why is heat or smoke still escaping after replacement?
Answer
An incomplete seal may result from the wrong rope diameter, a gap between the cut ends, an unclean groove or uneven fitting. Remove old adhesive and debris before installation, position the rope without stretching it and make sure the ends meet neatly. After the adhesive has cured, close the door and inspect the full seal.
Question
Should the replacement rope be stretched during fitting?
Answer
No. Measure the cleaned groove and position the rope naturally without pulling or stretching it. Stretching can cause the gasket to contract later or leave an inadequate seal. Cut it so the ends meet neatly, apply the supplied adhesive evenly inside the groove and press the rope firmly into place.
Question
Can the kit renew a seal in the flue system?
Answer
Yes. The kit is suitable for renewing appropriate rope seals in a stove flue system, as well as around stove doors and glass. Confirm that the selected diameter suits the joint and that the expected temperature remains within the rope’s 550°C rating. Flue arrangements should also meet the appliance manufacturer’s installation requirements.
Question
When can the stove be used after fitting the rope?
Answer
Allow the supplied rope adhesive to set and cure fully before operating the stove. Follow the adhesive instructions rather than assuming a fixed waiting time. Once cured, close the door and check that the white stove rope remains securely positioned and forms an even seal around the complete groove.
Question
How can I avoid a gap between the rope ends?
Answer
Measure the cleaned gasket groove carefully before cutting the replacement rope. Fit the rope without stretching it, then trim the ends so they meet neatly without overlapping. A visible gap can prevent the stove door from sealing evenly, so check the complete gasket position before allowing the supplied adhesive to cure.
