Central Heating Inhibitor - Sludge, Scale & Corrosion Protection

Vitcas® Central Heating System Inhibitor is a high-performance, multi-purpose treatment formulated to provide long-term protection for domestic and commercial central heating systems. It works by preventing the build-up of limescale, sludge, and corrosion, which are among the most common causes of reduced heating efficiency, cold spots in radiators, boiler noise, and premature component failure. By maintaining clean internal surfaces, the inhibitor helps to improve system circulation, lower energy consumption, and extend the service life of key components.

It is fully compatible with all common system materials, including iron, steel, brass, copper, aluminium, and both plastic and glass-fibre header tanks. Ideal for use in micro-bore systems constructed with plastic piping, Vitcas Central Heating System Inhibitor is suitable for both sealed and open-vented, fully indirect systems.

Key Features

  • Protects against scale, sludge, and corrosion

  • Suitable for all metal components in central heating systems

  • Compatible with plastic and glass-fibre header tanks

  • Safe for use in micro-bore plastic pipework

  • Mineral oil-free formulation

  • Ideal for long-term system protection

  • For use in fully indirect systems only

Not suitable for Primatic single-feed cylinders

Dosage: 1 litre of liquid or 1 tube of concentrate treats up to 100 litres of system water (approx. 10 standard radiators).

Application Instructions - Liquid Form

Unless completing an annual top-up, pre-treat the system with Vitcas Central Heating System Cleaner & Sludge Remover

  1. Locate the feed and expansion tank

  2. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use

  3. Pour the entire contents into the tank

  4. The inhibitor is drawn into the system and begins working within 1 to 6 weeks

  5. Bleed radiators to remove any trapped air

Application Instructions - Concentrated Cartridge

  1. Close both radiator valves and remove the bleed screw using a radiator vent key

  2. Insert the supplied adaptor into the bleed port and turn clockwise to secure. Trim the adaptor if necessary

  3. Cut off the domed end of the cartridge and attach it to the adaptor using a standard cartridge gun

  4. Open one radiator valve and inject the full contents into the radiator

  5. Close the valve, remove the adaptor, and replace the bleed screw

  6. Open both valves and bleed the radiator to expel trapped air

Vitcas Central Heating System Inhibitor remains in the system and provides ongoing protection against internal corrosion, sludge build-up, and limescale formation. For maximum system efficiency, use in conjunction with other Vitcas central heating water treatment products.

Product Q&A

Question
How does this inhibitor protect a central heating system?
Answer
The treatment helps prevent limescale, sludge and internal corrosion, which can contribute to poor circulation, cold radiator spots, boiler noise and premature component failure. By keeping internal surfaces cleaner, it supports heating efficiency and component life. Existing dirty systems should first be treated with VITCAS Central Heating System Cleaner & Sludge Remover unless you are completing an annual inhibitor top-up.
Question
Is it suitable for sealed and open-vented heating systems?
Answer
VITCAS Central Heating System Inhibitor can be used in sealed and open-vented central heating systems, provided they are fully indirect. This makes it suitable for many domestic and commercial installations. It must not be used in Primatic single-feed cylinder systems, so confirm the system configuration before adding the treatment.
Question
Which central heating materials are compatible with the inhibitor?
Answer
The inhibitor is compatible with common system materials including iron, steel, brass, copper and aluminium. It can also be used with plastic and glass-fibre header tanks and in micro-bore systems constructed with plastic pipework. This broad compatibility helps protect mixed-material installations without requiring separate treatments for different system components.
Question
How much inhibitor does my heating system require?
Answer
One litre of liquid inhibitor or one tube of concentrated inhibitor treats up to 100 litres of system water, equivalent to approximately ten standard radiators. The correct dose depends on the system’s total water capacity rather than radiator count alone, so larger installations may require additional product.
Question
Does the inhibitor need flushing out after treatment?
Answer
The inhibitor remains within the heating system to provide ongoing protection against corrosion, sludge and limescale formation. It is not intended to be flushed out immediately after application. For best results in a contaminated system, clean and flush the installation with the appropriate VITCAS system cleaner before adding the inhibitor.
